Would my girlfriend's mom be able to get at this bank account?

My girlfriend has a bit of a problem. She and her mother have a joint bank account, where her mother is the adult on it, and she won't let her at the money. It's money on the support check. I know that LEGALLY, since my girlfriend is 17, the money technically belong to her mother. There IS an agreement (it's on record at the court house) that the money is my girlfriend's after bills, food, school supplies, etc. Now, she's mad about that, because she's overheard her mother talking to her boyfriend about exactly WHAT she spends the money on, which is booze. Her mother is an alcoholic, and the problem has gotten worse over the last few years. My girlfriend is ticked that her mom won't let her at that money, and she wants to open up another account, with her dad's name on it, instead of her mom's. The reason is that she is getting a job, and her mother has stolen money (that she earned from odd jobs, etc.), as well as items of value, from her bedroom before. Often, the items never turn up again, and a large amount of booze suddenly DOES appear in the trailer. Even though her dad isn't her LEGAL guardian, I know for a fact that he CAN open an account with her, where only he may access the account until she turns 18, at the credit union I go to. I know this because when I got my job, I was paranoid my mom would take some of my money to get back at me, so I had my dad, who at the time was not my legal guardian, sign on the account instead of my mom, and that was perfectly fine. I also asked them, and they said that my girlfriend can open an account with ANYONE over 18, and they just have to cosign on it. Now, I know her situation is a bit different. My parents had joint custody for one thing, with my mother as the primary guardian until I moved in with my dad. My girlfriend's parents do NOT have joint custody, and her mother is her guardian. My girlfriend is 17. So I have two questions. One: Will her mom have any legal claim on her salary? and Two: Will her mom be able to get at her money if her name is NOT on the account? I did forget to mention that (according to her mother), the bills level out to around $600 a month. Her dad pays $800 a month. The live in a trailer, and because of her mom's "thriftiness," as she puts it, they hardly spend any money at all. Anything above the average, they "magically" don't have money for, and the mother's boyfriend picks up on it all. Believe me, when that woman gets drunk, which is literally every time I'm over, she starts spilling everything, hauling out bank accounts, bills, the works. There is a LOT of money going towards the local liquor store. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with her drinking, but when she starts being negligent of my GF's needs, which I myself have witnessed and really don't care to go into detail to right now, I do get mad about the EXCESSIVE amount of money I've seen go to booze. Her life is miserable, and I've seen firsthand why. I've heard some of the conversations

Because her mom will not be on the account... the answer is no... her mother will not have any access to this money. Tellers and bankers are very thorough with verification of people who are on the account before they are allowed access to it.

The father can open an account with his daughter and the mother cannot access that account. However, Dad cannot deposit the support money in that account. The support money is court ordered to be paid to the mother. That bit about the court order including an agreement that the money left over after necessities goes to the daughter is BS. Child support orders simply do NOT work that way. While your girlfriend may imagine that the extra support money is going for booze of whatever, the real truth is more likely that the support check barely covers half the cost for food, shelter, etc. There is no extra. If your girlfriend gets a job, she does not have to give the funds to her mother. She can put the funds in that account with her father. Of course, then Dad would have access but not Mom.

Does your friend pay rent? Does she buy her own food? Does she pay her portion of the electric bill? Does she buy her own clothes? Does she pay for her health insurance? Does she pay for transportation? Your friend needs to quit whining. As long as her mom pays for her needs, I guarantee the money does NOT cover it. If her mom is putting ANY of it aside for her she should be extremely greatful. Her mom has absolutely no obligation to do so.

    Horrible! Nothing like the Leisure Suit Larry's of the past!

    I have fond memories of playing the Leisure Suit Larry series. They were filled with hours of fun, puzzle solving and silly humor. I picked up this sad affair in the store and couldn't wait to start playing. I was disappointed immediately at the horrid controls (mind you I was using a keyboard to play). The controls would probably been better if I'd been using a joystick. The previous games were adventure games where your character was sent on a myriad of missions as he tried to solve puzzles that would lead him to eventual victory. This game is simply poorly done arcade style games followed by a cut scene, followed by yet another poorly done arcade game. As an example, instead of choosing between witty lines of dialogue for your character, you control a sperm using the arrow keys and have to move the sperm up and down as red or green items pass by from right to left. Hit the green items and Larry is cool and witty, hit the red items and he becomes more of a dweeb. Not great... 1/5 L.     Not at all like Leisure Larry and not much fun as a game either!

    I bought this game thinking that even if it wasn't like Leisure Suit Larry it would be a fun game - it wasn't.     Great game, but screensaver is the real deal

    I bought this after playing the demo. It is the perfect casual game for a netbook user. It plays flawlessly on my Eee PC 900HA.The game is simple and easy to pickup. Unique puzzle shapes and "locked" cells add some challenge to the typical match-3 style game play.What I liked most was the fact that it had a built-in screen saver. This is a virtual aquarium of sorts, customizable with 22 species of fish and 3 different reef backgrounds. New fish are rewarded/unlocked when you complete certain levels. This is what really kept me into the game; I kept pressing on to unlock the next fish.Game graphics are decent. Screensaver graphics are great and very realistic.The relaxing island-style music gets a little repetitive, but that's my only complaint.Highly recommended time-killer.     Fun while you're busy

    This game is fun. Nothing too complex. Similar concept as Bejeweled. The game doesn't take up the whole screen either. Its a great game to have running while you may be busy with something else. The rounds are timed, however, once you click away from the game's active screen, everything pauses.     I have been searching for the Otterbox Defender specifically for the Verizon iPhone 4 and have yet to find it locally at any retail store. With a wingspan of up to four and a half inches, this lovely creature ranks as one of the largest moths in North America. This adult moth has just emerged from the cocoon and is waiting on the bark of a tree trunk to dry and harden. The adults do not eat or have mouths. They live for only one week and emerge as adults only to mate. With lime green color and distinctive eyespots this is a very mysterious, magical looking being.
