  • Dec 04, 2011 from movieguy247(George Rother) in Entertainment
movieguy247 Well, let's dispense with the obvious, that Alligator is a rip-off of Jaws, however the writers seem to know this and have fun with the idea of a 36-foot long alligator running through the streets of Chicago. It all starts when a young girl buys a baby alligator while on vacation in Florida with her family. Almost immediately, the girl's father flushes the reptile down the toilet and it ends up in the city's sewer sytem where a pharmaceutical company is discarding the corpses of dogs that have been injected with an experimental growth formula. The alligator feeds on these corpses and grows to a gargantuan size. ,B - movies

kangaway Twelve years ago two incidents occurred which bore no similarity until now. After returning from their Florida vacation, the Kendal family decided their pet baby alligator was too much of a nuisance and flushed him down the toilet. At the same time, Slade Laboratories was conducting secret hormonal experiments with dogs and the dead dogs were disposed of in the city sewer. The baby alligator fed on the dead dogs and after twelve years its body chemistry took on grotesque mutations. The name alligator is an anglicized form of the Spanish el lagarto (the lizard), the name by which early Spanish explorers and settlers in Florida called the alligator. There are two living alligator species: the American alligator and the Chinese alligator.

    Great companion

Our son walked a little on the late side at 17 months, and this little alligator has become a great companion for him since. With a dog, we must go for walks daily, and he walks the alligator while I tend to his younger brother and walk the dog. That alligator has put some MILES on it. We got it as a gift from my aunt who is an avid Salvation Army shopper and were devastated when a wheel fell off (this is probably after at least 50 miles on the thing, not including its milage from previous owners), but we found a label on its clackity body and were ecstatic to have located a new one. The best part ... no batteries! Just a well-made and inexpensive toy that is, quite literally, willing to go the distance with your little one. 5/5 K. So Stinkin' Cute!

I bought this cute little fellow for my nephew. When it came, I just HAD to get it out and play with it myself! The clapping (not overly annoying) intrigued and scared my cat, but I sure thought it was fun. The wheel axels are off-center, forcing the "worm"-like motion (like the 80s dance, which forces the plates to clap as it strolls along. It is smaller than I expected -- box is only about 4"x4"x12", but I guess that makes it a little less intimidating for small children. Haven't given this to my nephew yet, but I sure think it's a great, timeless toy that can entertain for many years. For those who are interested, the paint is soy-based; the manufacturer really seemed to be dedcated to a natural, quality product. 5/5 Megan (Alexandria, VA) - See all my reviews = Durability:, December 30, 2007

"A VERY LARGE ALLIGATOR, WITH A VERY LARGE BITE"......

I remember in Brooklyn N.Y., hearing the commercial for Alligator on am radio in early 1980, and always wanted to see it, but I never got around to it, I finally saw it on tv in the mid 1980s. I must say I wasn't dissapointed in the mid 1980s and I'm not dissapointed with this 2007 dvd rerelease. Great pristine film transfer. Nice dolby 5.1 sound, make Alligator sound in a whole different way on a theatre system. Alligator came out in 1980, during this time the Age Of Gore 1978-1983 was in full swing, so Alligator was one of the gore gems to come out during this Age Of Gore. Alligator was based on urban legend about alligators in the sewar. The year is 1968, and a pet alligator named Ramone gets flushed down the toilet by an angry father. Twelve years later in 1980, this gator has grown to a prehistoric sized 36 foot. Thanks to the gators diet of discarded lab steroid tested animal experiments, it has grown to this enormous size. Alligator writers John Saylesand Frank Perilli and... 4/5 Patrick Miller "SAUROPOD" (NEW YORK) - See all my reviews, October 1, 2007

A very good, little known film

"Alligator" is a very good little B movie that deserves a much wider audience than it has to date. I don't even remember it being commercially released; I've caught it several times on late night TV. But it's a tight, fast-paced, unpretentious film, generally well acted and with a few nifty surprises. At the start of the movie, a little girl buys a baby alligator from an old Seminole Indian in Florida. Dad isn't thrilled to have a baby gator in the house, and in a fit of pique one afternoon he flushes it down the toilet. Down goes the gator into the town's sewer system, which coincidentally is chock full of dead pets, mostly kidnapped cats and dogs, which a villainous vet has been injecting growth hormones into before dumping them into the sewer. Fast-forward 12 years later; the baby gator, still in the sewer after chowing down on animal cadavers bloated with growth hormones for the past dozen years, has grown into a behemoth with a ravenous appetite and an indiscriminate taste... 4/5 JLind555 - See all my reviews, October 28, 2002

Flick Has Some Bite To It

This flick is a potpourri of great trivia. Star Robert Forster made his mark in "Medium Cool" only to slip into B-movie abyss before being resurrected(and Oscar nominated) by Quentin Tarantino in "Jackie Brown". Co-star Robin Riker would later play Chris Elliott's nemesis in the cult sitcom "Get A Life". The film's perfunctory heavy, Dean Jagger, won an Oscar for "Twelve O'Clock High". Oscar nominee for "Godfather II", Michael V. Gazzo is also on hand here. Sidney Lassick who plays the diabolical pet store owner was in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". John Ford regular Mike Mazurki has a bit as a security guard. Sue Lyon, the original Lolita, has a bit as a TV reporter. As for John Sayles' script it's intelligent but it's not as witty as it want's to be. There are too many obvious gags like a decapitated sewer worker named Ed Norton or a hospital intercom paging a Dr. Howard. What I felt distinguished the film was Lewis Teague's direction. Teague really knows how to... 4/5 David Baldwin (Philadelphia,PA USA) - See all my reviews, October 13, 2007

Review dictated by my five-year-old son

This is one of the best armored toys I have that can live on land and in the water. This toy's mouth is open, which I like. If this toy did not have its mouth open, its teeth would have interlocked. This crocodile is similar to prehistoric crocodiles such as deinosuchus, which I specially use for my games. 5/5 Ishir Bhan (Newton, MA USA) - See all my reviews, December 2, 2008

    Well made, detailed

This toy is very simple: it's a relatively realistic, but small, crocodile. If your child likes playing with animals and likes crocodiles, this will fit the bill. I wouldn't recommend it for very small children, as the Schleish series of toys can have some sharp edges, but barring that, it's worth it. It's extremely durable and is likely to take any abuse your child can dish out. 4/5 J. F. Tiscareno (Las Cruces, NM) - See all my reviews, November 28, 2010

    Big, lifelike and hungry!

My son loves to feed this guy some of his raisins, his mouth is open just wide enough for it, though he can't be made to chew because of the material, it still looks both cool and cute.As is expected, the attention to detail is excellent. The original and the best. I've tried all these dicing gadgets. The Alligator is the sturdiest, the easiest to clean and the sharpest. I bought the original before it had a receptacle to catch the diced produce. Although it was very effective, I did end up with pieces of dice all over the place sometimes, so when others came out with 'catchers', I tried them. None were really satisfactory. Some have little combs to get the food out from between the grid rows--that is a huge pain. Alligator has a thin shield that fits down over the grid. All you have to do is lift it up, rinse it and replace it. One competitor version I tried broke while I was dicing strawberries for heaven's sake, and another just wasn't sharp enough to do the job without extreme force. Another advantage to the Alligator is that the square grid accommodates more than those with a round grid. I was delighted when Alligator came out with this model and I happily switched back. You need to slice your... 5/5 C. G. King (Horse Country, VA USA) - See all my reviews, April 11, 2008

    Very helpful tool

I used this tool for the first time last weekend. It does make perfect dices and it will take only one or 2 pieces of the whatever you're dicing unless it's very soft. But it's still faster than dicing it yourself. My soup looked great with all those perfectly diced onions, celery and carrots. 5/5 Deborah L. Saves huge amounts of time

I have only been using mine for 6 months but I've already gotten enough use out of it that if it broke tomorrow, I'd still be completely satisfied. This machine saves an incredible amount of time in preparing food. Cleanup is also super easy. (If you get anything mashed in between the blades, a fork will generally take everything out just fine, but I find it easier just to stick a cucumber into the machine and let the newly-diced cucumber push out the stuff that had been mashed in there. Works every time.)I don't think the collector is all that necessary (I used it with the collector the first time and haven't used it once since), so if I buy another I'll definitely get the cheaper one without the collector. The trick to not having everything fly all over the place is to bring the blade down onto the vegetable only part way, so that the vegetable is gripped into place by the blade, then hold the dicer *upside down* over a collecting bowl. an excellent story about overcoming fear

In this Mercer Mayer classic, children are enthralled to find a little boy who insists that there is an alligator living under his bed. My kindergarten students love the child's antics as he tries to catch the alligator. When I teach facts about alligators, I use this book to help the children understand the difference between facts and fantasy. Also, by listing the foods that the child uses for alligator bait in the story, children can make a nice salad. This book gets imagination running and enthusiasm in high gear! 5/5 L. C. Theres an Alligator under my Bed

This book is about a boy who has an alligator under his bed and he is the only one who sees it. His parents don't believe him so he has to get it out for himself. So he goes down to the kitchen and gets some Alligator bait and makes a trail from his bed to the Garage and waits for the alligator to come out. He follows him down the stairs and to the garage. When the alligator gets to the garage he hurries up and shuts the door and goes back to bed. But then he realizes what if his dad can't get the car out of the garage because the alligator is in the way. So he leaves his dad a little note telling him that there is an alligator in the garage and if he needs help getting it out to call him.I like this book because it is cute and funny. I used to love to read this book when I was a little kid in elementary school. I think a lot of kids did well at my school. What child would not want to ride an alligator? I recommend this to be the hit of your swimming season. Whether it's the beach, lake, or pool side. Everybody will love it! Of course, it's plastic/vinyl and any abuse or misuse will have you scrambling for the included patch....but it'll be worth it in the end. Great at warding off ducks

I originally purchased this alligator float after talking with the Wildlife Rescue. We've had a problem with ducks swimming in our pool every day and leaving a great mess. As soon as we got these floats...no more ducks. (Mylar ribbon also works great). But after the ducks disappeared, we starting using them as fun floats. The kids just love them, especially down our in-ground slide. They fit just great and you go much faster down the slide. I wouldn't recommend taking these down and above-ground slide though it's too dangerous. As far as durability, the slide puts alot of wear and tear on these, so they don't last too long. Overall, we love them. I ordered 4 and I'm back to order more! 5/5 A. Marsh "Zulie" (Camarillo, CA) - See all my reviews, August 8, 2005

"Albino Alligator Angel" Postcard

art, fantasy, eye, eyes, whtie alligator, albino
Albino Alligator Angel - living in Florida I encounter alligators on a daily basis. They're one of my favourite animals! I thought I'd paint an albino one as they are so beautiful (but very rare). As albino alligators are much more vulnerable to various hazards, I've shown this one with its own guardian angel (also fair with pink undertones and pink big eyes). My own original acrylic painting.
Price: $1.70
