The Suitcase Kid

Creator: Jacqueline Wilson, Vicky Ireland | Family & Relationships - 2010-11-09

Dramatizations enormously popular with schools for work in classroom and drama studio.

Publisher: Nick Hern Books

About this book
Ten-year-old Andy used to live happily at Mulberry Cottage with her family: Mum, Dad, and Radish the rabbit, who lives in Andy's pocket and shares all her secrets. But then it all went wrong: Mum went to live with Bill, and Dad went off with Carrie. And Andy is expected to shuttle between the two - living out of a suitcase - and come to terms with her strange new families.Seen all over the country, this resourceful dramatisation of Jacqueline Wilson's The Suitcase Kid is suitable for young actors as well as young audiences. The adapter, Vicky Ireland, has provided production notes to indicate how the play can be staged even with minimal resources - plus a lot of ingenuity!

    Not that purple

When you go to collect your luggage at the airport, you will notice that 90 percent of the bags are black, about ten percent are red.If you want to easily identify your bag on the carosel, avoid these colors. In that vein, I ordered what I thought was a bright purple bag.Unfortunately, the bag I received was about the darkest a purple could be and not be black. Ten feet away it looks black. The bag does seem reasonably well made, although the handles are not as substantial and well padded as my other American Tourister bags. . 4/5 avraam jack "avraam jack" (USA) - See all my reviews, April 13, 2011

    Good and Bad

Bought this to replace another 25" that has seen better days. I like the compartment layouts on the exterior and interior. Have already used it on a trip to the mainland and it held up fairly well. One thing that I have noticed right out of the package is the spinner wheels sometimes have a mind of itself and roll off in another direction than what was intended. I checked by flipping the bag on its side and manually tried spinner each of the four wheels individually. Only one appeared to spin with no resistance and the three others did not spin as freely. Hope this is a manufactured parts defect and will try to get that answer from either Amazon or the luggage manufacturer. If that's how it is then I guess I'll have to try and fix it myself and change my rating. 3/5 jrc - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) American Tourister, the best luggage I've found

My home was robbed on New Years Eve and the thieves took my favorite American Tourister bag that I have had for 1o years to stuff their stolen goods in.Although I am very upset I was robbed, I was really upset they took my bag. I've bought a few larger Samsonite's over the years for long (2 weeks or more), but for some reason, with the smaller American Tourister I can fit the same amount of stuff and it's light weight and smaller size is so much easier to handle. The quality is as fantastic as my 10 year old one. No more Samsonite, I'm glad I was able to find this replacement at a decent price on Amazon. Color choices are great too.Being a frequent traveler, I'm really happy with this replacement. I could have gone down one more size to my original AT, but this is still short enough and expands a lot, and still very easy to handle.Highly recommended. 5/5 T. Almost just right..., April 10, 2008By Brett Despain (Draper, UT USA) - See all my reviewsStill looking for the perfect bag...this one comes very close. I own a Lowepro Compurover AW and a Tamrac Adventure 9 bag. The Compurover is too heavy and you have to crack it open like an egg to get to the Camera compartment. The Tamrac is the perfect size, but you have to take the bag off and lay it on the ground or your lap to open the camera compartment, otherwise you risk spilling out all of your gear! Not good. This Fastpack 250 intrigued me because the side access pocket allows access to your camera quickly without taking the backpack off. Guess what? it works. You really can get your camera out quickly while still wearing the bag.I bought this as strictly a travel bag. I'm a pilot so I needed a medium sized bag that I could fit in the cockpit while carrying my 40D and 3 L lenses. I also need the top compartment of the bag to carry a few snacks,... 4/5 Brett Despain (Draper, UT USA) - See all my reviews, April 10, 2008

    vs the slingshot 200

I was considering the Lowepro slingshot 200 and the Fastpack 250, and boy am I glad I went with the fastpack. Here's a quick side by side comparison:1. Camera storage compartment: pretty much identical between the two models.2. Ease of Access: Much easier and more comfortable for the fastpack; just let go of the right strap and swing the bag around. The slingshot swings around and ends up on your chest, pretty awkward feeling/looking; the fastpack ends up near your left waist, allowing you to suavely draw your slr.3. Size: the fastpack is bulkier than the slingshot, though not by much.4. Price: the same for both models.Other random fastpack 250 notes:1. Laptop storage compartment: the zipper opens along the side, not around the whole backpack.2. Cellphone pocket: my samsung t-629 fits very snugly.3. I use this bag for school, storing a slim folder in the laptop pocket, and a couple of 8x6 books in the top compartment. 5/5 Christopher Lee (La, Jolla, CA USA) - See all my reviews, May 29, 2008

You get what you pay for?

For the price, it's difficult to find fault with these binoculars. Tasco is evidently trying hard to make a high-value product (not just a toy) at an extremely competitive price. They are light, small, reasonably solid, and for the price I never worry about taking them into situations where they might get a little wet or a little mechanical abuse (e.g., bumps or scrapes). So these would be a great choice for occasional or emergency use (e.g., to throw in a glove compartment or emergency bag, or to take hiking or backpacking), when having a small, lightweight, relatively high-power set of binoculars would be beneficial. If you'll be using these for extended periods of time, I would encourage you to keep looking. The eye relief isn't great, so if you wear glasses you won't be able to see the full field of view. Also, and it could just be my pair, mine do not focus very sharply (spherical aberration?), especially at larger distances. Also, be aware that... 3/5 John Ueng-mchale - See all my reviews, March 10, 2007

great price for a great product

I ordered 3 binoculars Bushnell Powerview 8x21, Tasco Essentials 10x25 and Barska Blueline 3x25 opera glass. After comparing them during day and night. I decided to keep Tasco and return the other two. I think the 25 view glass make a difference for the light to get in the right way comparing with the 21. Both the Tasco and Barska are very clear without light interference. Barska is very cute and elegant. It is great for ladies who also like some fashion when going to opera. But the 3x limited its power. I wanted something that can see the bowing of violinist when go to concert and sit in the back row. Neither the Bushnell nor the Barska fold all the way. They create bridges. So they are not super compact. Barska comes with a cheap pouch looks like leather but not. Both Bushnell and Tasco come with nice fabric cases which can be attached to belt. The Tasco can be fold all the way to be super compact and not easy to break by accident as the other two have gap between the tubes. Good disposable emergency travel binoculars

Good disposable emergency travel binocularsI bought these binoculars to leave in my SUV as an emergency backup when I forget my excellent Nikon 7216 Action 8 X 40 Binoculars. They are much lighter and smaller and I can leave in my map holder on the door or even in my pocket and forget I even have them which leaves the old saying binoculars are only good if you have them with you. And that's where these binoculars shine they are very tiny and very light. They do bring things in close and after a little bit of focusing and adjusting width you can make things out if you have plenty of light. The little case they come with is pretty decent as well. Now for the bad parts. The eye relief is pretty bad, you will have to prop your eye glasses above them and or remove them to use. Also they are pretty dim which of course a lot of cheaper 10x25 binoculars are. The strap is a small little string that does the job but is pretty thin. But hey for the price... 3/5 Grant Brummett (Arizona USA) - See all my reviews, November 29, 2008

Highly recommend, but be warned, it's a pain to haul up stairs.

This crate has fit our 51 lbs. boxer very well. It has more than enough room, and is very easy to collapse. The crate fits easily in the back of the smallest SUVs, or even a hatchback. It is a bit heavy though, and moving it up and down stairs can be a pain. If you have the need for an easily movable dog crate, I cannot recommend this enough. But, if you just need a crate, and don't plan to take it on trips, there may be better options for you.UPDATE: It's now 4 years later. We bought a second crate almost 3 years ago when we adopted a second boxer, this time an 85 pound boy named Duncan. Today both crates are in great shape. I will say, Duncan was an escape artist, and managed to wedge himself between the bars under the door and get out without unlocking the door. Managed to pop a couple of 'welded' support at the base in doing so. I can't image how difficult and freaky that was for him, but he did it. Imagine my surprise when I got home. FAILING WELDS..........

We bought this crate for the compact design and portability, it is the best on the market. This dog is crate trained and uses a crates in out home. We bought this one for traveling. The first time we used it she broke out because all the welds on the upper front failed. She then bent the wire and the front collapsed inward. The dog was free and chewed. In the business we call these welds "stick welds" which do not hold. This crate should be recalled by the manufacturer. High Quality, Nice Construction, Eye Pleasing

I am a rat terrier breeder and so i know crates, cages and carriers. My daughter and I also show our dogs in conformation, so i know the struggles of moving into and out of hotels, and setting up and breaking down at the shows. EASY is a good thing! ROOM and COMFORT are good things. RUGGEDNESS and a PRETTY PACKAGE are also good things. This line of crates has it all. There is always a down side. If anything, the strength of the materials used to create this crate means you have to really PULL & PUSH to set it up securely and then reverse your steps to take it down. Once it is set up, however, you can feel confident, that your dogs aren't going anywhere until a human opens the door and invites them to leave.A beautifully constructed crate that you will be proud to own. The chrome version looks like highly buffed stainless steel.Reserved one star because I can't comment on how this crate will perform over time. My guess is that it will be around... 4/5 Stephanie Anderson "LUV RAT TERRIERS" (NAPLES, FL United States) - See all my reviews, August 3, 2008

    Perfect luggage

I bought this Eagle creek luggage for a number of reasons. First, it is relatively light for its size. This is very important to me given the limitations on checked luggage when you travel these days. Secondly, Eagle Creek has a good reputation for durability which is backed up by a no question warranty. I have had more than one piece of luggage destroyed by the airlines. And lastly, it is well made, much of which is from recycled products. The Tarmac 25 is an all around great piece of luggage that has plenty of space for a couple week trip. Could't recommend it more. 5/5 Gary W. Mclaughlin "sacgwm" (Sacramento, California USA) - See all my reviews, June 26, 2011

Light for the size and appears very well built

I am preparing for a 6 week trip to Europe and usually only take a 22" suitcase and a duffle, however this trip warranted a larger main suitcase, however I am very aware of weight restrictions on many of the European (lower cost) airlines. The Tarmac 25 weighs the same as my old 22" Atlantic as they cleverly use different fabric types in different parts of the bag depending on potential wear points. The zippers and wheels feel very sturdy. Finally, the "no matter what" warranty sealed the deal for me. This size is too large to carry on, so we'll see how it does on it's upcoming maiden journey. 5/5 R. Kennedy (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Light weight and well-made luggage

After disappointment with my TravelPro luggage, I replaced it with Eagle Creek Tarmac (purchased 3 sizes) after much research and comparison. What a difference. The Tarmac is much lighter and easier to maneuver, and appears to be well-made. I did miss not having any side pockets in the interior, but tried the travel pacs and found them to be a much more flexible option. The only negative is the inside mesh pockets located on the top. The zipper is located at the bottom and when you unzip the pocket, you have to reach up to pull out an item. Little awkward, and the zipper can scratch your hand. Overall, I am pleased with the Tarmac. 4/5 DoxieLover (Jacksonville, FL United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) When i received my 3 pack of 3 oz bottles, the main thing i tested was whether they would be leak proof as promised. So i put in some water into the bottle and squeezed the bottle before screwing back on the cap and closing the cap to see if the bottle would retain just the little amount of air I gave it. (I find this a useful technique so that when air pressure expands the things in the bottle the bottles won't explode making my bag messy.) Surprisingly, the bottle expanded to it's original size after i stopped squeezing it which worried me because that meant that air could still get back into the gotoob bottles while the bottles were closed and therefore, the bottles might not be leak proof. However, when i shook the bottle, nothing came out so so far it was leakproof. Next I started squeezing the bottle fairly hard while it was closed to mimic the pressure that the bottles would suffer from while in my luggage when i go traveling. Next I started squeezing the bottle fairly hard while it was closed to mimic the pressure that the bottles would suffer from while in my luggage when i go traveling. The bottle held up fine but the liquid came out... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 21, 2009

    Decent Product, Poor Value

Please, don't get me wrong. I think the Humangear GoToob is a pretty good product and I think that the designers are definitely on the right track. As an experienced traveler, I've put a lot of thought and effort into searching for something of similar design. The GoToob has a nice small grippable shape, is TSA compliant (under 3oz volume), is squeezable to access all the contents and to squeeze out airspace (for pressure changes), is readily refillable, is clear so it's contents/remaining contents can be seen, is colour coded so the contents are identifiable, has a nicely one-hand deployable cap, has a cap aperture with a nifty leak-proof valve, and has a neat little suction cup built in so that it can be attached to smooth surfaces. The problem is the GoToob has at least one critical flaw (for which I subtracted a star), and, is kind of a very poor value for the money (for which I subtracted another star). The problem with this product is the obvious "weak... 3/5 Y. Tsuchida "ABearInTheWoods" (Sunnyvale, California USA) - See all my reviews, September 24, 2009

The best product in its class

Having looked for a travel bottle that holds up, doesn't crack and is easy to use, I finally found the GoToob. I log well over a dozen trips per year and cram these bottle into my bag (carry-on) where they get pushed and smashed repeatedly. Never once have they come open, cracked or broken. This is a well thought-out product...Period. From a value perspective, I don't agree with others that rated lower for the price. There is no other product of this quality on the market. If you are looking for quality, something that isn't going to pop open or crack, this is it and is worth the money. I have not yet had a single problem with the 3 that I travel with and I feel even better considering the manufacturer's statement on standing behind the product. From their website http://www.humangear.com/GoToob.html regarding replacement caps (and they have a sense of humor):"Has a wild elephant stormed through your bathroom, stepping on one of your GoToobs and breaking the cap? Have you... 5/5 NinaSD - See all my reviews This review is from: Humangear GoToob Travel Bottle (Apparel) Having looked for a travel bottle that holds up, doesn't crack and is easy to use, I finally found the GoToob. Mr. Potato Head Silly Suitcase

    Toy (Hasbro)

Get this toy if your child does not have it.

This classic toy is one of the best on the market. My 15 month-old and 3 year-old both love it and CONSTANTLY play with it. It is great for teaching body parts. No child should be without this wonderful toy. Watch out for small parts, though, with the little ones. 5/5 scducharme (Concord, MA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Mr. Potato Head Silly Suitcase (Toy) I have to agree with the other reviewers that this toy is a toddler pleaser. My daughter got the Mr and Mrs Potato head version of this at age 18 months and she just loves it. (the Mr and Mrs version has one head but "lady" parts like earrings, fancy shoes, bow lips...) She learned the names of all of the parts, including shoes, glasses etc, and quickly is learning the correct place for each part. She carries around the head like a doll and loves to put the pieces into the case and dump them out and so on for what seems like forever. The suitcase comes apart sometimes, but is easy to click back together, is very durable, and a great way to keep the pieces all together. I highly recommend this classic, which (unlike many revamped classic toys) has stayed true to its original concept with the improvement of a storage feature and durable parts. Did the original have a compartment inside the head to store pieces? I can't remember, but this one does, so if we feel like just taking... Excellent, entertaining, educational toy

    We love this...

My mother had bought this Mr Potato head for my son in hopes to learn the body parts (head, arms, legs etc)...not only did he learn to say the body parts but he doesnt put the toy down. He loves it! The suitcase that comes with it is an excelent idea for parents. Us parents know how frustrating it is when our children get new toys that come with tons of small parts that can easily be lost. The suitcase helps keep all the parts together...I even get my son to put the parts in the suitcase himself (good way to teach him to clean up). Our dog although got a hold of some of the parts and chewed them up...Our son was so upset, we had to go out the very next day and buy a new Mr Potato head...this is certainly not a toy that collects dust in our house!! 5/5 0, August 30, 2001
