About this book
Campground Cookery is "the complete guide to outdoor cooking", and a wonderful addition to your cookbook collection. It has been used extensively not only by campers and backyard barbecuers, but also by scouting troops, youth groups, tailgaters, and wilderness outfitters nationwide. What's the secret behind terrific outdoor cooking? Knowledge of the basics, seasoned with just the right dash of creativity . . . and a pinch of fun. If your family complains about eating the same old thing on picnics and camping trips, or if your grilling menu simply seems a little tired, perk it up with some tasty suggestions from this classic outdoor cookbook. Campground Cookery begins with the basics - how to build a campfire suitable for cooking, how to start a grill, and basic recipes for cooking all types of food outdoors. There are also expanded instructions on dutch ovens, reflector ovens, pie irons, camp stoves and the like, for chefs who enjoy something a bit more adventureous and fun! Then, Campground Cookery goes a step further, with many delectable recipies.

    Great Directory

After my bad experience with buying a Woodall's Directory, I feel that there is almost no comparison with the Trailer Life one. This one is so much better in every way. The best thing I like about it is that it is easy to read. The print is clear, the maps are bright and colorful and the information is complete. I like the tabs for the states so they are easy to find. In the Woodall's the states were divided in two sections so you first had to decide which section to page through. Maybe it's because as we've gotten older, we have less patience. I could mention many other features, but mainly want to say that is a far superior directory than Woodall's. It came in just a few days in perfect condition. 5/5 Adeline Anderson "Addy" (Dassel MN) - See all my reviews, January 25, 2011

Thick with Advertising and Thin on Content

This Trailer Life RV Parks & Campgrounds directory contains over 40% advertising and is sorely lacking in content for many popular camping areas, such as Moab, Utah. It is heavy and unwieldy due to the many pages of advertising that are interwoven with the campground listings. The maps are good, but a good atlas will be more useful. The descriptions and rating system are far less informative than Frommer's. After reviewing the directory, I returned it to Amazon for refund. I highly recommend Frommer's "Best RV & Tent Campgrounds in the USA". We travelled with the 3rd Edition, and found it far more informative and easier to use. Frommer's also includes recommended State Parks - completely lacking in the Trailer Life directory. 2/5 Joseph R. Donnaway "Joseph Donnaway" (Durango, CO USA) - See all my reviews, February 17, 2011

    Love this directory

We are new to RVing and wanted something that we could use to find out where rv sites were and what amenities they offered. There is a lot of useful information in this directory. Instead of driving blindly down the road, not knowing where we will stay next, we now have a guide that will help lead us to our new destination. 5/5 Carole M. Difficult to navigate & incomplete

This book has good information, but it is really hard to use. It has campgrounds listed by city / town and the cities & towns are listed alphabetically by state. As a result, if you are looking for a campground in a particular area, you need to look up every city & town in the area separately. This is an almost impossible task if you don't know every little town in the area you want to camp. I think it would be far easier to navigate if the campgrounds were listed by county. That would at least give you all the campgrounds in a particular area. What's even easier, is to use the free Woodall's website to search. You can search that by city and it will give you all the campgrounds in the area, even if they aren't in the specific town. The book also has some good coupons, which if you use would probably pay the cost of the book. It will also be handy to have as a reference while on the road without an internet connection.I would recommend buying it for the... 2/5 BUJoeCool (North Chili, NY USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great App!

I love Camp Finder and I have used it frequently during the summer when I'm out with the family. The best part is that its extremely easy to use and always correct. I have tried other camping apps before this and I would usually find campgrounds in inaccurate locations. Camp Finder is always spot on and fast.I love the fact that I can check campsites and RV parks by amenities which is very important to me. Overall its a great app and extremely useful. This app is indispensable for my next trip. Best app for finding campgrounds and RV Parks

This a great app to find campgrounds and RV Parks across the USA. Found it easier to use than the other camping apps in the market, it had more camping information to find the best places to stay and was the only app that had photos and reviews. You can search by city and state, by campground name or find any campgrounds near your current location. You can filter what you are looking for by distance, by amenities such as tent sites, rv sites, 50 amps, laundry, swimming pool, WiFi, by camping club discounts such as Camp Club USA, Passport America, Good Sam Club and KOA and by park types, such as National Parks, National Forests, State Parks and Privately owned ones. You can also see the campgrounds listed by distance with rates or on a map. I actually used it last weekend to find a campground in Long Island and it took me to their front door perfectly. LOVE this app

I am not a review writter for the most part but to write one for this app is a pleasure. If you camp or someday hope to camp you can't do better than this app. I am a camper so I use it quite often but even when I am not actively seeking a campground that suits me, I enjoy reading about all that is available, near home or far away. I recently traveled to Michigan and I enjoyed seeing what was available where I was. You can tell right away that the folks responsible for creating this app care about it and want to provide a top notch product. Bottom line, you have to have it!!! 5/5 B. The Definitive Guide to California Camping

Tom Steinstra is one of the most enjoyable outdoor writers California has produced. Reading his work is simply a treat. He is at once amusing, self deprecating, and, most important, thorough and accurate. This new edition of California Camping combines the best of his writing in one volume and should be your first resource when looking to camp throughout the state.Besides a must read introduction covering such topics as how to avoid getting blisters and getting lost, strategies for keeping camping costs down, and how to limit bear access to your precious food supply, this book covers nearly every campground in the state from the Redwoods in Northern California to the Anza Borrego Desert in San Diego County. The book is divided into chapters, each of which covers a unique geographical province of the state. (These provinces match those found in Steinstra's popular book 'California Hiking' coauthored by Ann Marie Brown.) Each campground description includes a set of... 5/5 Fritz R. Moon publishing versus Foghorn Press

I have been a fan of Tom Stienstra's California Camping book for over 12 years. First purchased the 8th Edition from Foghorn Press. This particular edition from Moon is not nearly as well set up as the Foghorn Press editions. The individuals maps are not as detailed, and much smaller print is used. The gridded "Chapter Reference Map" at the beginning of the Foghorn edition has now been replaced by a "California Regions" map not as useful. Foghorn edition also had a "Chapter Features" list of each numbered and named campground on each map, this is missing in the Moon edition. The foghorn edition also had a foldout California map in the back, quite useful if you forget to bring a map and this is also missing in the Moon edition. As the previous reviewer took exception to the "Scenic ratings" this was not an issue for me personally as this is only a subjective classification. What might be a 5 for some, might be a 10 for someone else. Beauty after all IS in the eye... 3/5 Laurel Johnson (California, USA) - See all my reviews, August 8, 2007

Insufficient Information, caters primarily to RV users

The author mentions the trails to, from, and around the sites. Rarely was I able to find information about the length of hikes that were referenced in the book. For example, the "Fisherman's Hike In" on p. 781 says "Get here and you join the 5 percent club......it's worth the significant effort to get here." How many miles is it? What can I expect? "Difficult" and "significant effort" are subjective. For one to plan their trip, they'd need factual, verifiable information. This is completely unacceptable and insufficient. The title of the book is hugely misleading. The primary emphasis is on RV "camping" and RV campgrounds. When perusing the LA and San Diego areas, I only found a handful that were for ONLY tent camping/hiking. And those that are listed often don't give you the mileage. (As I referenced in my second point.)I was disappointed with this purchase. I'd return it, but the shipping would be almost as much as the book. 2/5 Cali Hiker "Cali Hiker" - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) We have been using these books since 1987. They are pretty good and fairly accurate. We always save our personal info about campgrounds and transfer them from book to book each time we purchase a new guide. Think these are the best out there. Little camper

I bought this for my Grandson's 3rd birthday along with the "Kids Explorer Adventure and Hiking Set" and from the moment he received these sets he did NOT put them down. Our daughter could not believe just how realistic everything looked, then we all just sat and watched our "Little Camper".He "cooked" us each a completely different meal and kept us all laughing hysterically for that entire night. He still uses his lantern as his night light. Please continue creating toys that actually "force" children of all ages to simply use their imaginations, with NO need for batteries, TV or any other electronic device. Please send me a catalog and add me to your mailing list for any future sales.Sincerely,Diane Zipko 4/5 Diane Zipko "dmzipko" (Fremont CA) - See all my reviews = Durability:, July 16, 2007

*1 yr. UPDATE* Lots of fun and actually a 10 piece set

Ordered this for our almost four year-old son for Christmas. He has enjoyed going camping, having picnics and making us food with his Pretend and Play Camp Set. We love toys that encourage him to use his imagination and this one fits the bill. And it does more than I actually thought: I should have noticed from the picture that the utensils swivel apart to make two sets (fork/can opener and knife/spoon) which is good for sharing, the silver base of the canteen comes off to make another dish or container, and the "flames" on the camp stove raise and lower manually. The lantern and camp stove both light up which makes it more realistic without taking away from the pretend aspect. Just wish the set came with a little pack to keep it all together--but we are using an old basket which works just fine. Other than that it's a great little set for the price and so far seems durable.*UPDATE* This set is probably one of our best toy purchases in terms of durability and longevity of use... 4/5 TR and EJ's Mom (USA) - See all my reviews = Durability:, January 19, 2010
