Helpful short guide to ease airline travel

I've travelled by air fairly extensively (and expensively) over the last 40+ years. I'm not a world traveler and don't log millions of miles but I have flown for business and pleasure MANY times. I wasn't too optimistic about "How to Buy Cheap Airline Tickets" being super helpful but thought I'd buy it and check it out (after reading some of other reviews). It was worth the price I paid for it.The information on increases in the amount that can be compensated for involuntary bumping - useful. And learning about new tarmac delay rule - you're able to request getting off of delayed plane now and go back to terminal - useful.Nice, clear color illustrations throughout the 48 page pamphlet (nice if you have a Kindle Fire). There were a few editing and formatting issues but nothing too distracting.Student discounts and senior discounts; info about Cheapflights.com - very useful. And the list does on. There was a lot of stuff I... 4/5 broiderqueen "army mama" (Southern Oregon) - See all my reviews, April 19, 2012

    Very good guide!

I've been planning to take a little getaway trip with my wife so I got this book to see if I can save some money on air travel although I was a little skeptical about the possibility. I was wrong! This is not so much of a book but an actual guide of what to do, how to do it and most importantly when to do it if you want save money or just get better seats and better service. The book really gives some very helpful tips which there is no way to know even if you are in experienced traveler. Given how much money you can save just with one ticket, the book is really worth the money! 5/5 Chris Stomper (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) too convoluted

it's too easy to get lost in the complexity of the app. plus it constantly asks for the flight information. i'm pretty computer and app capable and I constantly keep getting lost in how to navigate this app. more thought needs to go into the logistics off this app. 2/5 B. Glad I got this bag.

After much research...I got this bag.Pros:Reasonably light (3 pounds empty I think).Reasonably sized (not as slim as my old bag...which had no padding)Has a removable Accessory bag for my mouse and power supply (pretty spacious!). This was THE feature I wanted.Lots of pockets/places to store things, lots of room for documents, pens, accessories.Suprisingly easy to carry, either by handle or strap...Oddly more so than my unpadded older case. I guess it might be the padded handle and padded sides. It's comfortable to carry around.Cons:No dedicated "slots" to hold my 802.11g card, I stick it in one of the secured pockets. No big deal especially since My new laptop will have built in wireless. No space to hold a large (I mean large) book, normal books should fit easily (a bunch of them actually).I don't use or carry CD Disks with me, so that feature is pretty... 4/5 Steve in Boston "Steve" - See all my reviews This review is from: Targus CityGear New York Top Load Case for 15.4 Inch Notebooks TCG400 (Black with Grey) (Personal Computers) After much research...I got this bag.Pros:Reasonably light (3 pounds empty I think).Reasonably sized (not as slim as my old bag...which had no padding)Has a removable Accessory bag for my mouse and power supply (pretty spacious!). Sandy Backpack

I needed a durable backpack for my notebook on my deployment in Iraq. I've been using it for over five months now. It has handle sandstorm and the harsh climate. I even modified to carry many of my military items including my rifle (hanging on the front d-rings). Thats an estimated weight of 50 lbs. and sometimes more. Not only I suggest this backpack but the whole entire line of Targus notebook bags since many of my co-workers actually have the same brand. 5/5 B. Not the same as the original, very dissapointed

I've had the kensington contour roller for about 3 years. We've been everywhere together. 83 countries in fact. I've been very impressed with this bag. My old bag is a six star bag. Unfortunately, the wheels wore out and some of the stitching was starting to come apart. I've loved this bag, so choosing a new one wasn't going to be a problem. I ordered the 'exact' same bag from amazon. The 'new' contour roller is a cheap knock off of the old bag. I'm so disappointed. The pictures are all of the old bag. First, the zipper tags are some cheap little metal tabs, unlike the originals that were a neat two piece tab. The material is different, to be blunt, it's cheap, coarse nylon. The older bag had a softer feel, and the use of a simulated leather in key places like around the top handles. The leather has been removed from the top of the bag. Several of the little interior pockets have been removed, these were great for little things like pen drives. The zipped... 1/5 Doug Andriuk "Douglesso" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews, March 31, 2009

    Top notch for Uber Travelers

I'm a consultant and I spend quite a bit of time banging around between airplanes, rental cars and in and out of buildings. I have no less than 12 different laptop bags at home, from rollers to backpacks and over the shoulders. As you can tell, I have been searching for the right one. I recently bought this one due to the nice looking lightweight handle. Most roller bags look like roller bags. This one looks like a larger over the shoulder bag that has rollers. And that's exactly what it turned out to be. In fact, I just returned from a vacation where I hade both a Dell 700m and an Apple 12" PB in the same compartment, along with several other gadgets, accessories and files. Let's just say it was a working vacaion. It handled it all without a wimper. I was able to carry the bag when need be, roll it through airports and even tuck it UNDER the front seat on 4 different flights. I'm very impressed. More than I'd bargained for

I'm surprised. Surprised at a high level of quality and functionality for what I consider a very reasonable price.I had a rolling case that I'd considered pretty decent, but the handles were not sturdy enough. So I began the search for another, eventually looking at well over a dozen. I kept coming back to the Contour Roller, which seemed to offer everything that my previous case had, plus improvements in durability and ease of carry. It turns out that the Contour Roller is far superior to my previous notebook case. It's sturdier; the handles are much better, and more sturdily attached; it has a surfeit of pockets inside, including three in the back section for peripherals and addons like a webcam, mouse, and charger. There's a bottle pocket on the outside, and the handle is long enough for me to pull the case without it creeping up on my heels (I'm 5-11).I'm a college professor, and need a case for my computer plus class materials (it's my... 5/5 Mongoose "I know what I like" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kensington 62348 Contour Roller Carrying Case (Personal Computers) I'm surprised. Outstanding book for the cost conscious air traveller

This book was of great value right afterI read it. My wife and I were interested in going to China to visit our daughter at Christmastime. We had been working with a travel agent who came up with a best price round trip ticket costing $840 each. I read this book and was made knowledgable about something called a Consolidator. I told my travel agent to try to do better than the $840 and to look into a consolidator. She did and came back with a r/t price of $580. The only caveatt was that we fly out of Portland vs Seattle. We live in Olympia so the decision was easy for us. Without George E. Hobart's book we would have been happy paying $840, but we were almost twice as happy paying only $580. This book is filled with specific facts and details about how to really save with the airfares. It includes names and 1-800 phone #'s, and all the nitty gritty that the average person would need to save some real money on airfares. I just think it's a wonderful book. Useful Guide but...!

This is a very useful guide for those looking for bargain fares. The book provides a comprehensive look on the available discount fares and provides tips and guidance to those who may wish to benefit from the bargains. However, a lot has happened since the book was written. There is growth in low cost airlines in most parts of the world. These offer some very low fares which are affordable to those seeking budget fares. In addition, there are several websites that provides the reader with very low fares. Rather than list them here, one can just go to Google or Yahoo and other websites and carry out the search. That is why it is not absolutely necessary to buy this book. 3/5 A. Bunnell - See all my reviews, August 6, 2006

    A MUST FOR TRAVELERS

I purchased this because we were traveling for 3 weeks with alot luggage(8 bags). It seems one is always over weight. It work great for the first 2 weeks with out a problem, HOWEVER in the 3rd WEEK IT JAM AND THE ONLY WAY TO UNJAM IT WAS TO TAKE OUT THE BATTERY. This happen a couple times after that, unfortunately we are home and won't be traveling for a couple more months. I will keep you up to date.UPDATE: 9/1/2009 As of this date we recently used it again and it it work GREAT with no problems 4/5 James A. Kaniper "JAK" (USA) - See all my reviews, November 8, 2008

    Great Gadget to have

Well this is a gadget one should have ifyou travel more than twice a year. Recently, most domestic and international carriers are charging for excess baggage & weights. Domestic carriers no longer allows passengers to carry checked baggage for free. Now depending on the Internatonal carrier you choose the fees can vary on destination. It can be very costly monetary wiseand can lead to embarrassment at the checking counter. To avoid all that dillemas this is the perfect tool. I work for an International carrier and we happen to travel to multiple destination in Asia. Without much worries we were able to weigh the bags at our hotel and checkin without any issues or last minute dramas. The only disadvantage to having this gadget is you have to put this around the handle an lift it up for about 10-15 seconds which might feel like eternity, but other than that this is a great tool to have and can save you tons of money at the airport by ensuring the weight of baggage before you... 5/5 John John "blivngod" (Merrick ny) - See all my reviews, February 13, 2010

I have just returned to Spain from the USA and found that the correlation between between this instrument and two sets of airport scales was within plus or minus 0.1 Kg ( 0.22 lb ). The only problem I found was that it is difficult to reset the scales without getting a false reading for the next lift, fortunatly the false reading is obvious. This really WORKS

For the small price and power, I didn't have any great expectations. Was I surprized? After years of using a garden weasel to cullivate and weed a medium size garden may back and patiences were dwindling. This product finished that back breaking job in just over a hour. I was actually looking for more places to cultivate. It brought back the fun in gardening. Some areas of my garden were pretty packed, but this guy dug down and loosened everything up in fine fashion. The battery charge lasted about as long a I wanted to work before taking a quick breather. The recharge is quick, getting it back up to full speed in less than 30 minutes. Just make sure you use it with the intended purchase; culivate, aerate, & weed. Beware of large tree roots.I would say this is a Garden Weasel on steriods. 5/5 John Jamison (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews, April 30, 2007

This is a Time and Labor Saver

Black & Decker's new cordless cultivator is a real innovation. It is perfect for those smaller spaces that cannot be reached with a conventional cultivator. This would include smaller garden spaces, raised garden beds, and lawn patches. The overall weight of the unit is very manageable, and the handle-mounted 18V battery provides a nice balance. It is best that the soil being cultivated is not too wet or muddy or having too much of a clay consistency. In those circumstances the digging tines of the cultivator can get repeatedly clogged with mud or clay. Before dealing with tough clay soil, it would be wise to incorporate soil amendments (such as peat moss) to break down the clay. This product works very well in fixing those dead spots in a lawn. After the soil in the dead patch is loosened, new grass seeds can be sown, and then covered with a light layer of top soil. This turns a dreaded back-breaking job that is done usually on one's hands and knees into a quick,... 5/5 William F. Does the job, for me anyway

I got this sucker at the depot the other day, and I must say, i like it. When you have lots of beds around your house, like I do, using a manual rake and hoe to break up the beds is horrible. this sucker jumps right in and digs down nicely. It is good for breaking loose the bermuda that has invaded some of the beds as well, but that problem will always exist.I have used this over most of my 1 acre area, and it works fine. I don't think it will work as well come summer time here in TX, but with the wet spring we have had, it has worked well. 4/5 Eltex (TX) - See all my reviews This review is from: Black & Decker GC818 18-Volt Cordless Electric Garden Cultivator (Lawn & Patio) I got this sucker at the depot the other day, and I must say, i like it. I don't think it will work as well come summer time here in TX, but with the wet spring we have had, it has worked well. Very impressive!

This is the notebook case I've been waiting for! I make frequent international trips and, until now, I've tried stuffing a few critical carry-on items into my regular laptop case. That amounted to little more than a toothbrush. The Kensington Contour case is "real" overnight bag, built around my notebook. Large enough for my 17 inch screen, it has room to spare for all of my essentials and a change of clothing. After filling it to capacity, it remains amazingly compact. It wheels easily through narrow airplane isles and fits neatly into the overhead compartment. The only negative comment I would make is that the handle is uncomfortable between the fingers after wheeling it through the airport. If the padding was a little better it would have earned a 5 star rating. 4/5 John - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Darn near indestructible.

I travel some in the US and recently have had the "opportunity" to travel over most of Africa and the Middle East. This bag is an ideal carry-on size (I don't get in trouble with even the most restrictive airlines), will keep a 17" laptop safe and sound and has plenty of room to pack a couple nights worth of clothing and all the gear to go with the laptop.-Handle makes it comfortable to carry if required, stands up well to abuse.-Tough ballistic fabric, all the major pouches have double zipper pulls to make them easy to lock and are easily locked with the standard TSA-accepted locks.-The removable laptop sleeve comes out easily and provides extra protection for the laptop when it's under the seat in front of you. -Convenient pouches for pens, cards and the like. The only issue I have had is that the "tow handle" occasionally will not deploy all the way. This is remedied by simply putting it all the way back down and then re-extending it... 5/5 cdrikari "cdrikari" (Port Orchard, WA United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Consider this before you buy.

I bought the bag about a couple of months ago. I thought the bag was perfect at first, being able to fit my laptop and some personals. I then started to notice that my zippers were disappearing. The first happened within a week and then another disappeared after a month. If you like breaking a nail trying to unzip your bag then this is the case for you. They do offer a warranty to fix the bag but you should not be use the warranty within the first two months. Just something to think about before you buy.Aside from that the bag is great. The bag is pretty stable and holds a lot of items. The bag unlike the zipper so far is pretty durable. There is a bag on the underside that is a lifesaver. I've been able to put a small case of CD-R's(25), playing cards, a couple of external HD's and some cables. The pockets on the front works well with folders, pens, a laptop (obviously), mp3 player and a lot of other things you may need on the road.I understand that... 3/5 Tyrone Fain - See all my reviews, November 28, 2006

Travelon ID, Passport & Boarding Pass Holder with Pen and Zipped Pocket

We ordered two this time around, and they have improved upon the first one we bought! With the snap closure and the magnetic flap panel, it allows for privacy from snooping eyes, yet still makes it easy to have your important documents instantly ready. The half-height pens in their own elastic holders have always worked for us. The strap is great too! 5/5 S. Appleby "Artist" (Toledo, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews, December 20, 2007

    Don't Leave Home Without It!

I bought this identical item at Landmark Luggage at Valley West Mall in West Des Moines, Iowa without even contemplating its potential availability on Amazon. I just got back from seven weeks in the Phillipines. It will be hard for me to emphasize just how valuable this thing was in reality on the ground of a foreign country in which it performed all advertised functions and more. Yes, it holds your airline boarding passes when going through the airport. Yes, it securely safeguards your passport from all those criminal jackals just waiting for you to let your guard down. Yes, it holds your driver license if it happens to be needed at the time. However, the one feature I never saw highlighted anywhere was the zippered pouch on the backside that more than adequately served as a discreet money belt without having to announce to the world that you just happen to be carrying a wad of big bills. Now that I'm back in the U.S., I have it tightly clamped down in my briefcase ready for its next... 5/5 Todd Kight "Todigy" (Des Moines, IA USA) - See all my reviews, March 12, 2010

    Boarding Pass / Pasport Holder

The product was unsatisfactory - document slots are to small for the respective documents. Passport slot worked fine but was so tight that it was a struggle to get the passport in and out. The boarding pass slot was so tight that it was impossible to get the document in without crumpling. We ceased to use the product after the first flight. 1/5 P.
